Library card holder (free pattern)

Our first-graders had just been issued their very own public library cards and were feeling proud of them. We stitched up these small wallets from bits of scrap fabric and a button from the stash.

Choose a sturdy fabric that won't fray too much. I cut the pieces out and marked the spot for the button before the meeting. I used large needles and buttonhole thread. The girls (5-7 year-olds) for the most part had zero sewing experience. They needed some help sewing on the buttons and tying knots, but they all did the stitches up the sides fairly independently. If you'd like to use this pattern below, save the image (right-click or ctrl-click on a mac), and print it at 100%. To check the sizing, it should measure 3.5 inches in width.
